Magazine Cover Types

Cover Types
1.  Early Magazine Covers-painting on the cover, lften include things about morals and ethics.

2.  The Poster Cover-Very few words, the text is not designed to help the picture.  The photo is the most dominant piece, in general a page number would be posted for you to go to. cover needs to either be a really really cool photo or something or someone that everybody knows.  Disadvantages: could be boring and doesnt tell more about whats inside

3.  Pictures Married To Type-words dont cover the important parts of the photo, the words work WITH the photo, the words relate directly to the photo on the cover and tell us what we should see inside the magazine.  Disadvantages: It may not be visually appealing enought to the massive.

4.  In The Forest Of Words- Lots and lots of words organized in headlines and sub-headlines style.  Multiple colored text in different fonts and size.  The text can cover up parts of the cover such as empty spaces. It has multiple points of entry. Disadvantages: Its cluttery, and at times it takes away from the photo behind it.

Stuff that should be on my magazine cover-
  • title
  • cover picture

This ESPN the Magazine cover portrays Michael Jordan jumping against an all-white background in his Chicago Bulls uniform. Two weeks after winning his sixth title with the Bulls, the corresponding article speculates whether or not Jordan will retire from basketball. Jordan retired on January 13, 1999, but two years later signed a deal to play for the Washington Wizards. On April 16, 2003, Jordan played his last game and announced his final retirement.

This portrait of Michael Jordan on the cover of ESPN caught my attention quickly because I could easily tell what the topic was. Its one of the most famous and admired professional basketball players of all time, and he is in his very well known "Jump-Man" pose as he always does when going for a "Slam-Dunk".  Michael is not really facing the camera but the whole message is really in his name and number on the back of his jersey.  The lighting also in a way casted a perfect shadow right underneath Jordan, keeping the viewers eyes focused on the center of the page. The photo is not overexposed what so ever, every image is in perfect focus and you can clearly read the back of Michaels Jersey.  I think ESPN magazine did a great job choosing this photo as their cover.

Portrait And Self-Portrait Tios And Ideas

1.)  If you’ve got a remote trigger, that’s usually a better and more controllable than trying to use the self-timer.

2.)  Use a tripod. Seriously. While it’s possible to get good photos while you’re hanging on to your camera at arms-length, it’s a lot easier if you’ve got the freedom to move around a bit.

3.)  Have fun with it. Be sexy. Be yourself. Be awesome. Be different. Be creative. Whatever you do, have fun with it. That’s part of the point, after all.

I like this Environmental portrait because the photographer got a really good angle, low, up close, and shows the subject.  The buffalo's hide also blends in with the fall colors of its environment giving the photo a very natural and genuine appearance.

For the most part I like this photo because of the background, I was recently in Colorado and got to see a lot of scenes a this one.  I also liked the bald eagles in the bottom of the photo, its goes well as it is the United States Bird in some of the U.S's more unique regions.

This self-portrait I thought was very clever, the photographer found a corner of the building, set up the camera on the edge of one window, pushed the trigger, then ran over to the other side to pose for the shot.  Its a very unique photo and one that i really like.
Here's another clever photographer. He took a photo of his shadow with a mini-tripod who's legs are perfectly aligned with the shadow of the actual tripod from which the photographer took the photo from, pretty smart and makes a nice illusion.

This photo I liked because it doesn't  take a professional photographer to pull off capturing a photo like this one, this photo is very nice using the rule of thirds and giving a clear message of what the subject is and giving a really nice background.

This photo is a bit casual but could also be the cover of a magazine or used for some kind of advertisement for the Hotel/Casino behind the man who most likely is the owner of the establishment.  The photographer seems to of have taken the photo at the perfect time of day with the sky's colors blending with the shades of orange and gold of the building.

For my portrait photo shoot i plan on capturing a photo of a typical high school couple, I plan on making it look like a kind of magazine cover where you would ordinarily find a photo celebrity couple .

Welcome Back 2010!

This photo made its way into my favorites list because I actually visited Ellis Island in New York and saw The Statue Of Liberty up close, so, i can imagine how enormous and bright that long bolt of lightning might have looked like to the people on the island and even to people just looking in the islands general direction

This photo is my all time favorite, the photographer was just in the perfect position, and timed the shot just perfectly, to get a very close to perfect photo of natural selection in action.  7
This photo is one of my favorites because I can just imagine how crazy yet amazing it would be to actually be there and see this supercell thunderstorm up close.  The size of it is impressive enough but the different colors really complete the image.

Best Song Of 2010
Rihanna's "Only girl in the world" song was the most requested song to radio stations all over the country, Austins 96.7 being one of them in particular.  This song was being requested to be played over and over again on the first day it was released.  This song is a top favorite of 2010.

Best Movie Of 2010
Zombieland was a big hit in 2010, its opening day box office count was considerably high compared to other movies that were released at the same time.  It had two different kind of movies lovers entertained, a bit of horror and gore for those scary movie fanatics and a lot of comedy for those who enjoy a good laugh at the movie theater.  Definantly one of my favorites.

The FIFA South Africa World Cup Championship Trophy was awarded to Spain in the summer of 2010 after they defeated the Netherlands 1-0 in the final match..  This event was broad casted and shared all over the world.  The team received global attention for quite a while and everyone was anxious to get all the details on how the team accomplished it.

1.) This holiday break my family decided to spend Christmas snowboarding in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We rode-tripped 14 hours through Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado.

2.)  My new years resolution would probably be to be a bit less forgetful about things, keeping up with dates and things like that.

3.)  In 2011 I look foward to the Akins soccer season, i hope we do alot better than we did last year.
